In 2022 DNA began partnering with Pacific youth leaders, IOM Fiji and PacificWIN, to share our mental health and climate mobility experiences, with a focus on local consultation and community-based solutions.
In a recent workshop in Suva, participants co-wrote and designed the children’s book, ‘You, Me and Climate Mobility,’ and translated it into six Pacific languages in less than two days! Dance, songs, social media and poetry were also other mediums participants explored to communicate climate mobility challenges and experiences.
Sharing stories in Pacific languages is a key objective for DNA in the UN’s International Decade of Indigenous Languages.
Over many months, our Director, Bernie Goulding and Pacific Representative Pefi Kingi provided feedback and insights into the UN IMRF Progress Declaration with a focus on climate migration and people with a disability in the Pacific.
Both were guest speakers and collaborators with many communities of colour, at the week long UN Forum in New York ensuring Pacific migrant voices of all abilities were heard.
